Cutecore Is Me
Embracing your uniqueness
This song was inspired by my younger daughter who happily tells anyone who’ll listen she’s cutecore. She shares her identity without reservation, and I love that about her.
It imagines someone with a playful spirit who sees life through her own quirky lens and takes joy in it. As someone who’s always felt different, that resonates with me. At its core, this song celebrates being unapologetically yourself, and not caring what the world thinks.
I wove her name into the song. See if you can spot it.
Lyrics
People see a sidewalk—
I see jellybean roads.
Clouds are cotton candy,
With marshmallow toes.
A swing set’s a spaceship,
The slide is a dream—
I bend the world pastel,
Cutecore is me.
Zipping my coat with cupcake sleeves,
I step on hopscotch hearts and candy leaves.
The school bus growls, a pink plush beast,
With donut wheels and a purring seat.
Every window blinks with sleepy eyes,
As sleepy kids turn into chibi sprites.
People see a sidewalk—
I see jellybean roads.
Clouds are cotton candy,
With marshmallow toes.
A swing set’s a spaceship,
The slide is a dream—
I bend the world pastel,
Cutecore is me.
On the monkey bars, I’m a space cadet,
In bubblegum armor and a starbow jet.
The sandbox glows like frosted gold,
And the seesaw sings in a sugarplum fold.
A dragon made of glitter mist
Winks at me when I clench my fist.
They see traffic signs—
I see rainbow queens.
Their world is beige,
Mine’s bubblegum dreams.
A puddle’s a portal,
A pebble’s a key—
I bend the world pastel,
Cutecore is me.
Every mailbox waves with sticker smiles,
The trees wear bows, the air’s got style.
I hum a tune through lollipop light,
As sidewalk chalk draws creatures bright.
My shadow skips with jelly limbs,
And everything glows at the world’s pink rim.
Why be plain when you can paint?
Why just walk when you can float?
The world’s a plushie waiting for names—
And mine’s stitched in every coat.
They see traffic signs—
I see rainbow queens.
Their world is beige,
Mine’s bubblegum dreams.
A puddle’s a portal,
A pebble’s a key—
I bend the world pastel,
Cutecore is me.
