Happy Days
Ordinary life yields to joyful bursts
The song captures the ordinariness of much of life, neither bad nor good, just unnoticed. Then, like the sun through parting clouds, there are bursts of spendor when things, you feel, are just what you’d want them to be. You relish such days recognizing they pass just as suddenly as they come.
The contrast between ordinariness and splendor in the feel and vibe in this generation was perfect, so despite the indulgently long leading in and trailing off, I kept it.
Lyrics
Another dawn, another road, familiar steps to tread
Some days move like shadows cast, grey skies that never fade
But there’s a rhythm in the doing, a comfort in the pace
Even when the skies stay muted, there’s purpose in this place
Like clouds that shape and shift above, the moments rise and fall
Some flash with sudden silver light, some barely show at all
But in the spaces in between, a silent current flows
An unseen thread that pulls me toward the day I’ve yet to know
A shadow stirs beneath the surface, soft and slow to rise
Familiar as an old refrain, beneath these open skies
Happy days, happy days, I’m standing in their sun
These seasons come and seasons go, but right now I’ve begun
Happy days, happy days, no promises to hold, just light that slips away
There’s a deep and quiet meaning when work becomes my play
The season shone and slipped away, so bright and clear
The days that stirred my spirit now are fading in the rear
I carry quiet gratitude for all they let me see
But drifting to familiar rhythms feels less like being free
In stillness, steady pulses rise beneath the calm and clear
A quiet strength unfolds inside to meet what’s drawing near
Happy days, happy days, I’m standing in their sun
These seasons come and seasons go, but right now I’ve begun
Happy days, happy days, no promises to hold, just light that slips away
There’s a deep and quiet meaning when living feels like play
Happy days, happy days, I’m standing in their sun
These moments pass like shadows cast, but still I feel I’ve won
Happy days, happy days, no promises to hold, just light that slips away
And maybe the beauty comes from knowing they won’t stay
