My Only Truth
A broken man in a broken world pants for God
Christians haven’t well represented the range of genres. Serious jazz and blues artists? The selection is lacking. I was never much into Christian Contemporary, so that left me with just Worship music.
This song draws inspiration from As The Deer — not in lyrics, but in that deep, yearning heart for who God is. His Word is Truth. I set the song in a blues vibe because it felt right: a flawed man lamenting a broken world, struggling to get by in it, and finding strength in God.
Lyrics
I’ve worn these weary, tattered shoes
Walked through a world with too much blues
But then Your mercy pulled me through
Now every step walks close to You
This desert wind keeps whisperin’ lies
Promisin’ gold that just runs dry
Broken streets with empty lights
Like broken souls and empty plights
The world sells dreams wrapped in grace
But Your love’s the well I can’t replace
Where truth runs deep and waters clear
My peace is that You are near
You’re my water in the desert sun
My shelter when the night’s begun
My soul won’t rest till it’s with You
My only hope, my only truth
When I wander far from Your side
I find no well, no place to hide
A desert wide, no shade, no hand
No shelter from the burning sand
I’ve wandered far, lost in my ways
Like the prodigal, I’ve gone astray
But now I hear Your call so clear
I’m coming home, You’re drawing near
My weary soul, Your love sustains
Life feels half full, despite the pains
Your truth’s the fire that lights my way
Your grace gives me the will to stay
You’re the river running deep and wide
My endless hope, my joy, my guide
You’re my water in the desert sun
My shelter when the night’s begun
My soul won’t rest till it’s with You
My only hope, my only truth
You’re my water in the desert sun
My shelter when the night’s begun
My soul won’t rest till it’s with You
My only hope, my only truth
My only hope, my only truth
